Any comments on lightning arrestors (Miner-Antenna)? What is the maximum acceptable loss?

We have used the Ventev arrestor in past. Their insertion loss < 0.25dB.  I think anything <1dB is fine.  Lighting arrestor might be too much to protect the unit, and is not needed in most cases.
